TRIO Upward Bound Program

What is TRIO UB?

TRIO Upward Bound (UB) is a pre-college program, funded through the United States Department of Education (ED), that provides academic support during the school year as well as during the summer for high school students in Fayette and Raleigh County.  Program participants must have a desire to continue their education past high school.

Academic Year

Program participants meet with the Assistant Director and Educational Outreach Counselor one-on-one or in small group settings at their respective high schools once a month to discuss concerns and answer any questions.  In addition, students must complete a minimum of two hours of online tutoring each month.  Finally, the program hosts a variety of "Monthly Meetings" each month ranging from ACT/SAT prep, college campus visits and hands-on STEM activities.

Summer Program

The WVU Tech TRIO UB program provides participants the opportunity to live on the WVU Tech campus for six weeks in the summer.  While on campus, participants take classes that will prepare them for the upcoming school year.  In addition, participants take engaging, hands-on elective courses ranging from weightlifting to understanding how music impacts our everyday lives.
In the evening, program staff take students on a variety of cultural activities.  During the sixth week of the summer program, participants go on a cultural enrichment and undergraduate trip to a city within eight hours of the WVU Tech campus.
