What is TRIO Upward Bound (UB)?
The TRIO UB program works with students in grades 9 - 12 that would be considered the first in their family to earn a four-year college degree and/or meet financial eligibility guidelines set forth by the U.S. Department of Education. Program staff work with participants to meet identified academic, guidance and personal needs. In addition, academic advising and college awareness activities are offered to all participants through individual meetings and group activities. The program also offers waivers for the ACT and SAT as well as waivers for college admissions applications. We also provide participants with a MOCK ACT experience. This allows participants to take the ACT in an environment similar to a real ACT test date. Finally, participants that actively participate during the school year receive a monthly stipend. For those students that participate in the summer program, they also receive a stipend.
Who We Serve
Students enrolled at Meadow Bridge, Midland Trail, and Oak Hill High Schools in Fayette County and Independence, Liberty, Shady Spring, and Woodrow Wilson High Schools in Raleigh County are eligible to receive services from the program.
